The ALA Graduate Student Posterboard Presentations
The ALA Graduate Student Poster Sessions connect convention attendees directly with the frontier of livebearer research, offering a look into active scientific discovery before it reaches academic journals. Attendees can interact face-to-face with graduate researchers as they present original findings on livebearer genetics, evolutionary biology, behavioral ecology, conservation status, and physiological adaptations. Whether you are a casual hobbyist looking to understand wild-type behaviors or a seasoned breeder interested in the latest taxonomic and ecological insights, these interactive sessions provide a dynamic bridge between the aquarium community and formal ichthyology.
The posters are set up at stations, allowing attendees to view the poster, hear a short presentation and ask questions. The stations are spread across the room so that all the graduate students can engage in separate conversations at once. ALA usually has between 1 and 6 student presenters each year.
